Setting up Enfora devices to report to your Foundation Server

by bappelt

The Numerex Enfora Foundation supports the MT series of Enfora devices. If you purchased you devices from Numerex, they should come pre-configured to report to your server. All you need to do is plug them in. However, if you purchased your devices elsewhere, you will need to configure them.

Enfora devices will need to have the correct version of firmware installed. If necessary, the correct version can be found here for an MTuL.

The easiest way to do this is to download and install the terminal emulation program EmTec ZOC which is available for a 30-day trial and then download the Numerex Configuration Script for MTuL or Numerex Configuration Script for MTGu.

To run this script, first get your Enfora device connected to the RS232 port on you PC using an Enfora programming cable. You will have to configure ZOC to use the appropriate serial port, baud rate, etc. Once that is working, simply select “Start REXX Script” from the “Script” menu and browse to where you saved the Numerex configuration script. This script will prompt you for the server IP address which you should be able to get from your welcome email. The script will work as-is if you are using Numerex GPRSX SIMs, but if you are using other SIMs you will need to edit the script to specify a different APN name. After the script complete, the device will begin reporting to your server.
